Co-Founder, Design and Production Head
Sumanth is a ceramic designer, engineer, and entrepreneur with over 10 years of rich global experience in product designing and manufacturing. He gained mastery over his craft by traveling the world, learning from different cultures and innovating sustainable & agile stoneware production techniques.
Having worked with indigenous potters on various projects, he realized that most craftsmen were leaving the craft due to a lack of consistent and competitive job opportunities.
Sumanth cofounded Nugu with a vision to create a global handmade brand that makes bespoke sustainable products for conscious consumers by training and employing indigenous people.
Sumanth believes in minimal living and often says that pottery can reignite our connection to our origin, i.e. Earth.
Kiln Specialist and Quality Manager
Sundara is the first member of the Nugu team and has built the business since its inception.
Hailing from the indigenous tribe of South West rural Karnataka, Sundar believed in our vision to build a sustainable business within the indigenous community.
Despite having very little academic education, Sundar was quick in learning the nuances of the craft and rose to the position of a Kiln technician.
Sundar is a natural leader and has played a vital role in creating Nugu's team. He continues to mentor the new team members while advocating our cause among the neighboring indigenous tribes.
Innovation and Production Manager
Kiran is a Material Science Engineer with a keen interest in the field of research and innovation. His passion for exploring sustainable living brought him to Nugu.
At Nugu, he works closely with Sumanth and the entire team towards creating impeccable and high-quality products.
He enjoys permaculture farming and is currently exploring sustainable building methods to build new work and living spaces at Nugu.
We work as a close-knit community that supports each other towards mutual development. The pottery is built on a Permaculture farm, built on the principals of sustainability, with a purpose to provide food security for the entire Nugu community.
